Zambia Water Pump Project
Zambia is a land-locked country in central southern Africa of around 19 million people.
In 2021, the Rotary Club of Mount Lawley became involved with a very important project in Ndola, Zambia, which is currently supported by the Rotary Club of Karrinyup. There is a water pump providing drinking & washing water to 85 orphaned and vulnerable school children in Ndola, however there is serious concern that should the current water pump break down, the children and attached farm would be left without clean drinking and washing water.
Our Club is working in harmony to support and add to previous important work carried out by the Rotary Club of Karrinyup on both the school water supply & the supporting farm. This new element of the project aims to provide interconnecting polyethylene pipe, valves and fittings, to link storage tanks with reticulation. This will provide water security by delivering a reliable supply of drinking and washing water, which can also be used for agriculture & feeding animals.
The following image shows current water tanks supplied for the school in Ndola.
The borehole drilling site is 4.5 Ha and some of the polyethylene pipe, fittings & valves will be portable to deliver greater flexibility and water security.
It is hoped that in the near future the number of children attending the school might increase, however this cannot occur without an assured supply of clean water. The objective is for the project to be completed during 2021.
